DIY Chalkboard with Wine Cork Border

Don't forget to stop by and Like my Facebook Page! DIY Vintage Chic.

I needed a quick birthday gift for one of my wine-loving besties so I tried to come up with a few ideas. I found a great idea over at The V Spot. I decided to make my piece functional and use chalkboard paint.

Materials:
2x2 plywood board
Molding {or a 2x2 frame}
Paint ~ color of your choosing
Chalkboard paint
Wine Corks
Epoxy ~ I used E6000 {found at Michael's}
Picture Hanger
Chalk
Felt

I decided to make my own frame out of molding. A quicker {easier} choice would be to buy a frame you like and go from there. I ended up painting the frame and about 2-3 inches around the border of the board. Corks vary in length and width so painting the border will help conceal any flaws.
Also attached your picture hanger to the back at this time. I used sheets of felt to cover the back of the plywood as well. I didn't want to scratch my friend's wall up.
 Next tape off the board for the area you want to cover with chalkboard paint.
 I just so happen to have 2 inch painters tape. Paint a couple of coats. {Use a coat of primer first especially if you're using plywood.} Once the chalkboard paint has dried start using your epoxy to glue on the corks. I arranged a pattern before hand so I could quickly apply the corks as I went along.
The V Spot suggested using epoxy versus a hot glue gun so you're apply to go back to other rows and shift the corks as needed. Remember, they're all different sizes so just because your cork border works out perfectly on one side doesn't mean you'll have the same results on the next side.
Tada! You're ready to go!
If it's a gift, grab some chalk and write a message before you wrap it up.
I may have to make one for myself now. :) But I'll need to stock up on corks.... what a shame. Cheers!
