Beginner’s Guide to Paper Embroidery (Everything You Need to Know) - Part 1
Paper embroidery is one of the easiest ways to start stitching — especially if traditional fabric embroidery feels intimidating.
Instead of fabric and hoops, you stitch directly onto cardstock. The holes are pre-marked, so your needle knows exactly where to go.
Why Beginners Love Paper Embroidery
-
No embroidery hoop required
-
No fabric bunching
-
Small, manageable projects
-
Clear stitch placement
-
Faster to complete
-
Medium-weight cardstock (#60 works beautifully)
-
Embroidery floss (DMC recommended)
-
Embroidery needle
-
Push pin or thumb tack
-
Scissors
How It Works (Simple Overview)
-
Print your pattern at 100% scale
-
Pre-punch holes using a push pin
-
Stitch outlines first
-
Fill in petals and shapes
Add details like French knots
Paper embroidery is structured, relaxing, and incredibly satisfying for beginners. Stay tuned for Part 2 for additional details.

***While I'm thrilled to share my step-by-step directions, the good and the bad, these are intended for your personal use. I'm always happy to hear and see what my bloggers have been working on. BUT a lot of work goes into these creations and while I have no issues sharing so you are able to create the work for your precious homes please understand that selling an exact duplication of my designs is highly frowned upon. :( Please always be considerate of another artists work. Thank you!***
