If you’ve been thinking, “These are beautiful… but I’ve
never embroidered before,” take a deep breath. 💛
You truly don’t need advanced skills to create stunning
embroidered table numbers. Two simple stitches — back stitch and French
knots — can carry an entire design.
Here’s the beginner-friendly way to make them:
Step 1 – Choose Your Font Style
Start with the overall vibe of your wedding:
- Minimal
& Modern → clean script or serif
- Rustic
→ slightly organic, handwritten look
- Romantic
→ flowing calligraphy
- Boho →
relaxed, imperfect lettering
Print the number in your chosen font at 4x6 size.
Step 2 – Print Your Number Template
Print directly onto:
- Medium 4x6 cardstock
- Use white or kraft paper
Make sure your ink is dry before stitching.
Neutral ivory, cream, or soft white paper photographs beautifully.
Step 3 – Pre-Punch the Holes
This step makes stitching paper much easier.
Using:
- A fine
needle
- Push
pin
- Or
embroidery needle
Gently poke small, evenly spaced holes along the number outline and any floral details.
Spacing tip:
Keep holes about 1/8 inch apart for smooth curves.
Place a mouse pad or stack of paper underneath to protect
your table.
Step 4 – Stitch the Outline
Now the magic begins.
Use back stitch or stem stitch to follow your
pre-punched outline.
Back stitch is perfect for beginners:
- Bring
thread up through first hole.
- Go
forward one hole.
- Come
back into the previous hole.
- Repeat
along the line.
Take your time. Keep tension gentle — not too tight, or the
paper may buckle.
Step 5 – Add Floral Accents
This is where personality shines.
You don’t need complicated stitches.
Use:
- Back
stitch for stems
- French
knots for flower centers
- Small
straight stitches for petals
A few tiny accents in your wedding palette (sage, blush,
gold, earthy tones) add texture and dimension without overwhelming the design.
Remember: subtle is elegant.
Step 6 – Mount in Frame or Card Holder
Once finished, gently press the back of the card under a
book for a few hours if needed.
Display options:
- Gold
4x6 frame
- Acrylic
stand
- Wooden
card holder
- Clip
stand for rustic weddings
After the wedding, they can be framed as keepsake art — a
beautiful reminder of where everyone gathered to celebrate.
Encouragement for Beginners 💛
You do not need advanced stitches.
You do not need years of experience.
Back stitch + French knots go a long way.
The beauty of embroidered table numbers isn’t perfection —
it’s intention. The tiny variations and hand-stitched details are exactly what
make them meaningful.
