Fall has officially arrived, and you know what that means around here—it’s time to transform the house, inside and out, into a festive blend of cozy autumn warmth and spine-chilling Halloween fun!

Every year, I love combining real garden plantings with faux florals, clever DIY builds, and dependable outdoor Amazon finds. Whether you love subtle harvest vibes or full-on haunted house energy, here is the complete tour of our outdoor Halloween setup this year, along with the details on how it all came together.

1. The Welcoming (and Haunted) Front Entryway

The front porch balances warm autumn textures with classic spooky accents:

  • Tiered Gourds & Lanterns: Stacked along the steps are textured crochet and knit pumpkins, craft pumpkins, and black metal lanterns accented with harvest floral picks.

  • Brewing Cauldron & Skull Planters: A mini skeleton keeps watch over a bubbling cauldron filled with iridescent ornament bubbles and skull planters stuffed with fairy lights. Grab the mini skeleton, cauldron bubbles, and faux floral accents.

  • DIY Front Door Window Panel: Custom "Help Us" window panel installed right beside the entry door creates a creepy backlit shadow effect after dark.

  • Porch Greeting: An upright coffin cutout board framed by feathery pampas stems, autumn leaves, and a bold harvest wreath finishes off the threshold.

2. Front Bed Haunts & Window Surprises

Extending the theme across the front landscaping brings depth and unexpected surprises for trick-or-treaters:

  • Lounging Life-Size Skeletons: Please meet Willy and Wanda. A pair of life-size skeletons lounge in our wrought-iron patio chairs. Willy even sports a pirate bandana and eyepatch for some added personality. Grab your own life-size skeletons.

  • Willy’s Eye Path & Creepy Webs: Underneath Pirate Willy's eyepatch is an authentic, spider web that adds just the right level of natural dread.

  • Giant Web & Spiders: Stretching across the front walkway is an expansive giant web and spider.

  • DIY Weathered Window Boards: Faux wood planks crafted from lightweight foam board and  paint give the front windows an abandoned, boarded-up look.

  • Scary Girl in the Attic: Looking up to the second-story window reveals a glowing, trapped silhouette peering down at unsuspecting guests.

3. Driveway Markers & Plant Integration

Blending live landscaping with Halloween decor keeps container gardens working all through October:

4. Garage Display & Deck Accents

Rounding out the tour are the larger architectural touches:

  • Garage Silhouette: A bold wall and garage scene brought to life with a silhouette path, bat clusters, and a large spooky house highlighted by outdoor lighting.

  • Handmade Crochet Hanging Spider: Suspended in the front yard is a handmade crocheted spider with orange reflective accents for eyes (drop a comment or message me directly if you'd like the pattern!).

  • Deck Railing Hanging Baskets: Up on the back deck railing, lush faux vine fall leaves overflow from the coconut fiber hanging baskets, echoing the fiery autumn foliage of the planters below.

Setup Checklist for Launching Your Exterior Display

  1. Test Night Illumination First: Position all colored floodlights and wash spotlights early to ensure silhouettes and attic figures cast crisp, high-contrast shadows before locking in small props.

  2. Anchor Lightweight Foam & Cutouts: Use heavy-duty outdoor mounting strips or frame clips to secure foam window boards and door inserts against fall wind gusts. Suction cups also work great for the windows. And magnets are helpful for attaching decor to the garage doors.

  3. Blend Faux and Living Foliage: Pack faux floral picks directly into the root bases of living trailing vines to conceal stems and give seasonal color to existing containers.
