It's summer time so I've been thinking about the beach!!! If you know anything about my husband and I you know we love being on the beach and listening to the ocean. I decided I wanted some artwork that remind me of all the beach trips we've gone on.... come to think of it, at least one beach was involved in every vacation we've been on.

I had mentioned in the Bedroom Cottage Blog that I had a few ideas for some wall art. I combined these two ideas. Something natural-looking and beachy-looking from Sew Dang Cute Crafts.
Sew Dang Cute Crafts ~ Beach Plank Sign
And the names of places listed out. Ballard Designs charges $100 for just ONE of these signs. So for the example below, a whopping $500!!!! I decided to make my own. :)
Ballard Designs ~ City Signs
I had a collection of several boards the same size. These happen to be 1x6 boards and about 40 inches long but you can choose the size you need. I painted the boards in a variety of blue, green and cream. Water them down and this will created a vintage look. I also typed out each of the beaches we've gone to in a Word doc, printed them out and traced the names onto the boards.
I painted over the letters with grey paint.
I lightly sanded down the boards, especially the edges to create a vintage look. Then I used a brush lightly dipped in a walnut stain, lightly brushed over the boards and quickly wiped away the excess stain with a paper towel. {Notice the bold, italic words? Follow those directions or you'll be starting over. :)}
Here's the boring, bare wall. This is a perfect spot for the Beach Signs since I already have our Wood-Burned Wedding Frame and Engagement on the dresser. {Now if we can just replace that monster tv}
Originally I was going to stagger the signs but when I lined them up to hang on the wall I really liked having them all in a straight line. So that's how they went up.
Close-ups!
See the green board here? That's why you have to lightly and quickly work with the stain. This was the first board I stained and was a little to heavy on the stained. :(
Duh! I'm a complete dumbo! I completely forgot the best beach we've been to.... the one we got married on! Oh geez. Stayed tuned for an update....{update completed, check it out here}
